Grid Based Layouts
A current trend that seems to be on the raise is the use of obvious grids. Dividing spaces evenly to house differently brand elements and information creates a bold look. It also forms a very versatile system that can be applied to many different applications.
A trend that’s been going for a long time now is the use of bold San-serif fonts. We’ve seen these used by Spotify, Air BnB, Uber and Pinterest. I think the kinetic typography trend is a direct reaction to that breathing life into something that’s become a bit bland adding a new dimension to brands.
Gradient trends have been going on for longtime we see these used in lots of app icon work. Instagram being the most recognised of these. Now bright and bold gradients are being used everywhere from UI to packaging.
Outlined type has also become a popular treatment this year. Usually seen in fashion and editorial and now being used in brand kits across all industries. Outlining gives font the ability to work nicely in open compositions and become part of the artwork it self. It’s a great way to emphasise information whilst sticking to the same font.
